|Justice Courts are established by counties and municipalities and have the authority to deal with class B and C misdemeanors, violations of ordinances, small claims, and infractions committed within their territorial jurisdiction. Justice Court jurisdictions are determined by the boundaries of local government entities such as cities or counties. The Vernal Victim Advocate Program provides court advocacy services to those listed as a victim on a case being prosecuted either through Vernal City Justice Court or Uintah County Justice Court.
Vernal Victim Advocates provide court advocacy services by notifying victims of pending arraignments, pretrial conferences and sentencing hearings. Advocates can help a victim to stay in contact with the prosecuting attorney and can represent a victim who does not wish to be present in the courtroom.
